Denominational Affiliation
Ione Community Church has always been a Congregational Church since it was formed in 1895, and from 1963 to the present has been affiliated with the United Church of Christ. Because we are the only Protestant congregation in Ione, in 2005 we decided to open our doors wider by affiliating with two other traditions that value unity and diversity. So now we are officially members of the United Church of Christ, the National Association of Congregational Christian Churches, and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)...all three! This has been a rather remarkable and amazing journey that we hope has sent a message of welcome to all.
The United Church of Christ (
www.UCC.org) was formed in 1957 as part of a merger between the Evangelical and Reform churches and the Congregational Christian Churches.
The National Association of Congregational Christian Churches (
www.NACCC.org) was formed in 1955 for those churches that wished to maintain historic congregational polity with local autonomy. The NACCC is not a denomination, but an association of churches.
The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
www.Disciples.org was formed in 1932 and often partners with the UCC. The largest concentration of DOC churches is in the mid-west, but there are many in Oregon and Washington as well. The lordship of Jesus Christ is central to its beliefs, as well as ecumenical unity, baptism by immersion, and weekly communion.
